Construction Chamber Of Commerce And Social Welfare Bureau Promote Barrier-Free Facilities Project 21 Jun 2021

Mr. Lai Meng San, Chief Executive Officer of Lai Si Construction and Director of the Youth Committee of the Construction Chamber of Commerce, said that the government currently has guidelines for barrier-free facilities in public projects, while private projects are not regulated. To install barrier-free facilities, space resources are very important. I believe that large private companies like Macao gaming enterprises will have this set up. He said that the utilization rate of barrier-free facilities in some communities is not high, and he believes that more communication and coordination should be made during the design stage.

Mr. Lai Meng San also said that the current average age of construction workers is 50 to 60 years old, and there is a lack of young people joining the industry. Many large-scale projects need to hire non-domestic workers to complete. There will be many job opportunities in the construction industry in the next five years and he recommends that interested young people to join the construction industry. He said that during the epidemic, many tour guides and taxi drivers were interested in switching to the construction industry, and the Chamber of Commerce and the Labor Bureau jointly organized training courses.
